App Store Connect alternatives: Mac apps, CLIs and web tools compared

The best App Store Connect alternative for most developers is a native Mac client: Helm if you want the most complete app (free tier, Pro from $9.99 a month), Itsyconnect if you want it free and open source. If you work from a terminal or CI, use the asc CLI or fastlane instead.

No third-party tool replaces Apple's site completely. Every one of them goes through the App Store Connect API, so it can only do what the API allows, and you'll still open appstoreconnect.apple.com now and then.

The bigger split is where your API key lives. Mac apps and CLIs keep it on your machine and act only while that machine runs them. Hosted services such as MetaRun and Runway keep it on their servers, which lets agents and scheduled jobs work with your laptop closed, at the price of trusting a vendor with a team key that reaches every app on your account. Prices, versions and stars below were checked on 2026-10-12.

Helm

Free download; Pro from $9.99/mo (US)

Best for: The most complete native replacement for the web UI, on Mac and iPhone, with AI help for copy, keywords and review replies.

04 · Briefing

What to check before you switch

Start with the key. Apple's documentation says a team API key reaches every app on the account whatever its role, the private half downloads once, and a revoked key can't be reinstated. Helm, Forge and asc keep it in the macOS Keychain; Itsyconnect encrypts it with a Keychain-held master key; hosted services keep it on their servers. Neither model is wrong, but pick one on purpose.

Then check how a write happens. Most clients behave like Apple's site: edit, save, live. Itsyconnect's diff mode, fastlane's HTML summary and LaunchBuddy's approval queue put a look before the write, and that habit pays off the first time you bulk-edit 30 locales.

Last, check the role each tool needs. Helm asks for Admin for every feature, Itsyconnect needs Admin for sales metrics, and Runway works with App Manager. Use the least-privileged role that covers your work.

05 · Briefing

Mac app, iPhone app, web or terminal

Apple doesn't publish App Store Connect in the Mac App Store. Its Mac tools for this job are Xcode and Transporter, which deliver builds; the official App Store Connect app runs on iPhone and iPad. For a desktop client you go third party: Helm, Itsyconnect, Forge and Blitz are the current Mac options.

For a web alternative you can self-host Itsyconnect's Docker image behind your own login, or use a hosted platform. On Windows or Linux, asc ships binaries and Itsyconnect's Docker image gives you a browser UI.

06 · Briefing

Most setups end up with two tools

Archiving, signing and uploading need your Mac's toolchain and keychain, so they stay with Xcode, asc or fastlane. The store side (listings, screenshots, pricing, reviews) is where the tools on this page differ. A common pair is asc or fastlane for uploads plus Helm or Itsyconnect for listing work. If you'd rather hand the store side to an agent, MetaRun picks up at the processed build: attach it, check what blocks submission in each language, submit.

07 · Briefing

What we left out

NativeConnect, which older roundups still list, isn't here: nativeconnect.app now redirects to an unrelated site, and a Mac App Store search doesn't find the app. AppDab and ASO.DEV's Connect are current Mac App Store apps (both updated in October 2026) that we didn't evaluate for this page.

08 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best App Store Connect alternative?

For a desktop app, Helm is the most complete and Itsyconnect is the best free, open-source option. For scripting, asc and fastlane. For hosted work such as repricing every storefront, rendering screenshots or running agents with your Mac off, MetaRun. Decide first whether your API key should live on your Mac or on a server.

Is there an App Store Connect app for Mac?

Not from Apple. The official App Store Connect app is for iPhone and iPad, and Apple's Mac tools for this job, Xcode and Transporter, deliver builds. Third-party Mac apps that edit listings and manage TestFlight are Helm, Itsyconnect, Forge and Blitz.

Is there a better App Store Connect than Apple's website?

For everyday listing work, many developers prefer a native client. Helm and Itsyconnect edit every locale in one window and add AI translation, and Itsyconnect can stage changes as a diff first. None covers everything Apple's site does, because they're limited to the App Store Connect API.

Is there an App Store Connect web alternative?

Yes. Itsyconnect runs as a self-hosted web app from its Docker image (add your own login; it has none). Hosted options are MetaRun for store operations and Runway for release management. Both keep your key on their servers.

Is there an App Store Connect desktop app for Windows or Linux?

No native client that we found. asc ships binaries for macOS, Linux and Windows, and Itsyconnect's Docker image gives you a browser UI on any OS that runs Docker.

Is it safe to give a third-party app my App Store Connect API key?

Treat it like a password. A team key reaches every app on the account, and Apple keeps no copy of the private key. Local apps keep it in your Keychain; hosted tools keep it on their servers, so you're trusting their security. Use the least-privileged role that works, and revoke unused keys under Users and Access, Integrations.

Which App Store Connect alternatives work with AI agents?

asc ships 25 agent skills. Itsyconnect, Blitz and LaunchBuddy run local MCP servers on your Mac (LaunchBuddy's writes go only to its own planner). Runway and MetaRun run hosted MCP servers. Helm offers a CLI that agents can call.
