Ship from Xcode'scoding assistant

Xcode 27's agents can already build and test your app. Add MetaRun as an agent plug-in and the same Claude Agent, Codex or Gemini conversation can attach the build, write What's New and submit for review, with your Apple key held on MetaRun's servers.

01 · Uplink

Connect Xcode to MetaRun

01 · Add the MetaRun plug-in

In Xcode 27, open Settings, Intelligence, Plug-ins. Choose Add Plug-in, then Add from URL, and paste:

https://github.com/metarun/metarun-skills

02 · Or with one click

Opens Xcode's plug-in sheet with the repository filled in.

03 · Sign in

Install MetaRun from the list, then click Sign in next to it. MetaRun opens in your browser; pick read-only or read and change.

04 · Ask the coding assistant

Claude Agent, Codex and Gemini in Xcode all get MetaRun's tools and its six workflow skills.

Attach build 312 to version 2.4 and tell me what blocks submission.

03 · Briefing

Xcode builds, MetaRun ships

The split follows App Store Connect itself. Archiving and uploading stays in Xcode's Organizer or Xcode Cloud. Once the build has processed, everything after it is App Store Connect work: attach the build, answer export compliance, finish What's New, check screenshots, submit, then release. MetaRun gives Xcode's agents tools for each of those, with a preview before every change.

04 · Briefing

What the plug-in installs

Xcode 27 agent plug-ins can carry skills and MCP servers. MetaRun's plug-in is the metarun-skills repository: the hosted MCP server at metarun.dev/api/mcp and six workflow skills. Because it's an http server, nothing runs on your Mac and your App Store Connect key never leaves MetaRun.

On Xcode 26.3 to 26.6, Apple documents agent configuration folders under ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/CodingAssistant for adding MCP servers to Claude Agent, Codex and Gemini when they run in Xcode.

05 · Briefing

Prefer Claude Code or Codex in Terminal?

Xcode also works the other way round. Turn on Allow external agents to use Xcode tools in Intelligence settings, then add Xcode as a server in your terminal agent with claude mcp add --transport stdio xcode -- xcrun mcpbridge, or codex mcp add xcode -- xcrun mcpbridge. Add MetaRun to the same agent, and one session can build through Xcode and ship through MetaRun.

06 · Comms

Things to ask Xcode

  • Ask Xcode: I just uploaded build 312 from Organizer. When it's processed, attach it to 2.4.
  • Ask Xcode: Write What's New for 2.4 from the commits since the 2.3 tag, then stage it in every language.
  • Ask Xcode: Read our privacy manifests and give me the App Privacy answers to enter.
  • Ask Xcode: Pause the 2.4 phased release while I look at this crash.
07 · Safety

How Xcode asks before a change

Xcode asks before an agent uses a tool it hasn't been allowed. Tools you've allowed are listed in Settings, Intelligence, under Permissions, where you can remove them. Leave MetaRun's apply tools off that list so every App Store change asks first; reads and previews are safe to allow.

08 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which Xcode version do I need?

Agent plug-ins arrived in Xcode 27, released in September 2026. Agentic coding with Claude Agent and Codex started in Xcode 26.3, where MCP servers are added through Apple's agent configuration folders instead.

Does MetaRun upload my build?

No. Archive and upload in Xcode's Organizer or Xcode Cloud as usual. MetaRun takes over once the build has processed in App Store Connect.

Which agent in Xcode should I use?

Any of them. Claude Agent, Codex and Gemini in Xcode's coding assistant all see the plug-in's MCP server and skills.

Does the Xcode agent see my App Store Connect key?

No. It signs in to MetaRun and holds a MetaRun token. Your key stays encrypted on MetaRun's servers and is decrypted only for each request.

Which plans include agent access?

Pro ($39 a month), Studio ($99 a month) and the 14-day free trial. Starter doesn't include it.

Other agents

Agent access

14-day free trial with agent access. No credit card. Your Apple key stays encrypted on MetaRun.
