Does AI recommend your app?

More people now pick an app by asking an assistant than by browsing the App Store charts. Nobody tells you what it says about yours.

There is a second store now, and nobody is optimizing for it

For fifteen years, getting found meant one thing: rank in App Store search. Then a large share of "which app should I use" moved into a chat window. Someone types what's the best habit tracker for iPhone, gets three names and a sentence about each, and installs one. They never see a search result page. They never see your keywords.

That answer is not built from App Store rankings. The assistant searches the open web, reads a handful of pages, and synthesizes a recommendation from them. Which means your position is decided by Reddit threads, best-of roundups, comparison posts, and review sites, not by the metadata you spent a weekend tuning. It is a separate ranking system with separate levers, and almost nobody is even measuring it.

What this checker actually does

It finds your app on the App Store, derives 3 questions from your real niche, and asks a live answer engine each one, cold, exactly as a person would. Then it reads the reply the way a person would: was your app named, was it on the actual recommendation list or just mentioned in passing, and what position did it hold.

The half that matters most is the source list. Grounded answer engines report the pages they retrieved, so you see the specific sites behind the recommendation and how many of the answers that cited them left you out. That turns "be more visible to AI" from a slogan into a list of pages you can go and read today.

It asks about your niche rather than Apple's genre, because "Health & Fitness" is not a question anybody types. If the guess is wrong, correct it and re-run: the same app can score 33 in its store category and 67 in the words its users actually use.

What we will not do

MetaRun will never post for you. Not a Reddit comment, not a review, not a forum reply, not a DM, not a listicle entry. That is a permanent product boundary, not a feature we have not built yet.

The reason is simple. Every platform worth appearing on is actively down-ranking machine-written content, and the moment a tool starts manufacturing that content it becomes a spam tool and takes its users down with it. The parts of distribution where automation genuinely compounds are the unglamorous ones: capturing demand that already exists, converting it once it arrives, and measuring which of it worked. That is the part MetaRun automates, all the way into the store.

Questions people ask

Does ChatGPT recommend my app?
Run the checker and you will know in about ten seconds. It asks a live answer engine 3 real questions a person would type when looking for an app like yours, then reports whether your app was recommended, what position it landed in, which apps were named instead, and which web pages the engine read to decide.
Which AI engine does this check?
Today it checks Gemini (Google Search grounded), a live consumer answer surface with real-time web retrieval. We only report on engines we genuinely call, so every result is labelled with the engine that produced it rather than implying blanket coverage of every assistant. More surfaces are being added.
Why would an AI recommend a different app than the App Store ranks first?
Because they rank on completely different things. App Store search rewards downloads, ratings, and keyword placement in your listing. An answer engine composes its reply from what the open web says about your category: Reddit threads, best-of listicles, review sites, comparison pages. An app can own its keyword in the store and be invisible in an assistant's answer, and the reverse happens too.
How do I get my app recommended by AI assistants?
Work on the retrieval, not the prompt. An assistant's answer is downstream of the pages it reads, so the lever is being genuinely present and accurately described in those pages: the community threads where your category gets discussed, the roundups that cover it, and your own site being clear about what your app does and who it is for. The checker shows you exactly which pages the engine used, which turns a vague goal into a specific list.
Is the checker free?
Yes, and there is no signup. Free checks are limited to 10 a day per visitor because every check makes live model calls that cost real money. Results are cached for a day, so re-checking the same app returns the stored result.
Does MetaRun post or write content for me?
No, and this is a deliberate line rather than a missing feature. MetaRun never posts, publishes, sends messages, or writes reviews and forum comments on your behalf, anywhere. AI aimed at manufacturing demand gets penalised by every platform it touches and makes the tool that does it a spam tool. MetaRun measures, diagnoses, and does the compounding work: your store listing, your pricing across every storefront, your screenshots, your releases.
Can I track this over time?
Yes, inside MetaRun. Track the specific questions that matter for your app, re-check on a schedule, and see movement week over week alongside the rivals and sources behind each answer. MILO can run it by chat, by voice, or from your IDE over MCP. There is a 14-day free trial and no credit card.
