App Store Connect,from OpenAI Codex
One codex mcp add and a browser sign-in give Codex MetaRun's App Store Connect tools. It can attach a build and submit it, stage What's New in every language, or reprice your subscriptions, while your Apple key stays encrypted on MetaRun's servers.
Setup checked October 2026 against Codex MCP docs, non-interactive mode
Connect Codex to MetaRun
01 · Add the server
Codex sees that MetaRun offers sign-in and starts it straight away, in your browser. Pick read-only or read and change.
codex mcp add metarun --url https://metarun.dev/api/mcp02 · Sign in again later
If the sign-in expires or you disconnected it in MetaRun's settings. --no-browser prints the link instead, for SSH sessions.
codex mcp login metarun03 · Or edit ~/.codex/config.toml
The Codex CLI, the IDE extension and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app read the same file, so one entry covers all three.

Add the server with a token
Mint a personal access token in MetaRun under Settings, MCP. It's shown once and can be revoked any time. Codex reads it from the environment variable you name.
export METARUN_TOKEN="mr_pat_..."
codex mcp add metarun --url https://metarun.dev/api/mcp --bearer-token-env-var METARUN_TOKENOr in config.toml

See howOne setup for the CLI, the IDE and the desktop app
Codex keeps MCP servers in ~/.codex/config.toml, and the CLI, the IDE extension and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app all read it. Add MetaRun once and it's there in each, signed in. A trusted project can also carry its own .codex/config.toml.
Xcode's tools in the same session
Xcode exposes its build and test tools to outside agents. Turn on Allow external agents to use Xcode tools in Xcode's Intelligence settings and run codex mcp add xcode -- xcrun mcpbridge. Codex can then build through Xcode and ship through MetaRun without leaving the session.
Codex or ChatGPT?
They connect differently on purpose. Codex reaches MetaRun's full tool set and asks you before each change, like any coding agent. ChatGPT uses the MetaRun app for ChatGPT, a smaller set of tools where every change waits for you to press Apply on a card, and MetaRun never hands the model a confirm token.
Things to ask Codex
- Ask Codex: Is build 312 processed? Attach it to version 2.4 and run the readiness sweep.
- Ask Codex: Summarize git log since v2.3 as What's New and stage it in English and German.
- Ask Codex: List every storefront where our yearly plan costs more than 3% of monthly income under PPP.
- Ask Codex: Draft replies to the last five 2-star reviews. Don't post anything.
How Codex asks before a change
Codex decides per tool from the hints MetaRun sends with each one. In its default mode it runs tools marked read-only, which covers MetaRun's reads and previews, and asks before the rest, which covers every apply. You can change that per server with default_tools_approval_mode, or per tool with tools.<name>.approval_mode in config.toml; keep the apply tools on prompt.
Unattended
codex exec runs one request without an interactive session and with its approval policy set to never. MetaRun's reads and previews still run, because they're marked read-only; anything that would ask is refused.
Read-only check, safe to schedule
codex exec "List my apps and the review state of each one's latest version. Read only."Applies are refused in codex exec by design. Don't set MetaRun's approval mode to approve just to make them pass; keep App Store changes in an interactive session.
Frequently asked questions
Does Codex need my App Store Connect API key?
No. Codex signs in to MetaRun in your browser and holds a MetaRun token. Your Apple key stays encrypted on MetaRun's servers.
Will Codex change my listing without asking?
Not with the default settings. Reads and previews run freely because MetaRun marks them read-only; every apply asks first, and it needs the confirm token from a fresh preview.
Can I use MetaRun with codex exec in CI?
For reads and previews, yes: readiness checks, review summaries, rank reports. Applies are refused in codex exec, which is the safe default for anything that changes your store.
Does it work in Codex inside the ChatGPT desktop app?
Yes. The desktop app's Codex reads the same config.toml as the CLI.
Which plans include agent access?
Pro ($39 a month), Studio ($99 a month) and the 14-day free trial. Starter doesn't include it.
