App Store screenshot sizes in 2026: every iPhone and iPad size
App Store screenshots must be exact pixel sizes: 1320 x 2868 for the 6.9-inch iPhone class and 2064 x 2752 for the 13-inch iPad (swap the numbers for landscape). Upload 1 to 10 PNG or JPEG screenshots per display size and language, and App Store Connect scales your largest set down for smaller devices.
Apple's spec page now names classes by display type, and it contradicts itself on the required iPhone size. Its summary asks for "At least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)", the 6.3-inch class, while its table marks 6.5-inch as "Required if app runs on iPhone and screenshots for iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display) aren't provided". To pass under either reading, upload a 6.9-inch set (1320 x 2868), a 6.3-inch set (1206 x 2622) and, if the app runs on iPad, a 13-inch set.

How to upload screenshots in App Store Connect
Roles: Account Holder, Admin, App Manager or Marketing. The version must be in Prepare for Submission, Rejected, Metadata Rejected, Developer Rejected or Invalid Binary.
- 01
Open the version and language
In Apps, select the app and click the version in the sidebar, for example iOS App 2.4. Pick a language from the menu at the top right.
- 02
Open the screenshot wells
Under Product Page Information, click App Previews and Screenshots, then the iPhone or iPad tab. For other sizes and Apple Watch, click View All Sizes in Media Manager.
- 03
Upload, reuse and order
Drag up to 10 images into the well, or click Browse Assets to reuse approved images from the Asset Library. Drag to reorder.
- 04
Repeat per language, then submit
Repeat for each language that needs its own screenshots. They're reviewed with the version and go live when it's released.
Which screenshot sizes are required, and how scaling works
Since September 2024, App Store Connect has needed one iPhone set at 6.9 or 6.5 inches, plus a 13-inch set for iPad apps. Apple's spec table still says that; only the new summary names the 6.3-inch class, and no release note announces a change. Covering both costs one export: 1320 x 2868 and 1206 x 2622 are both close to 19.5:9, so one layout fits with a few pixels of crop.
Everything else is optional: if your interface is consistent across sizes, Apple says to provide only the highest required resolution and App Store Connect scales it down. Deleting works in reverse, removing the screenshot from every size that used a scaled copy.
How many screenshots, and which ones show in search
Each size takes 1 to 10 screenshots per language. Apple says that, depending on orientation, the first one to three appear in search results when there's no app preview, so lead with your strongest frames. Previews always appear before screenshots. On iOS 27, a search results creative asset can take that spot instead.
File format: PNG or JPEG, with no transparency
Apple accepts .jpeg, .jpg and .png, and since a July 2026 editorial update the spec says images can't include alpha channels or transparencies. Design tools often write PNGs with an alpha channel even when every pixel is opaque, so export a JPEG, or in Preview choose File > Export, pick PNG and untick Alpha.
Content rules apply too: guideline 2.3.3 wants the app in use, not only a login or splash screen, 2.3.8 requires a 4+ age rating, and Apple's asset guidance rules out prices, URLs and Apple recognitions like Editor's Choice.
Localized screenshots and the language fallback
App Store Connect supports 50 localizations, and screenshots belong to each one. A language you add starts with the primary language's screenshots (Apple defaults its properties to the primary's, except description and keywords), so a German listing without German uploads shows English captions. Previews fall back to the next best available language. MetaRun's free storefront audit lists the countries where the description is translated but the screenshots aren't.
iPhone Duo and the Asset Library
iPhone Duo takes 1398 x 2034 (outer display) and 2007 x 2853 (inner), in either orientation. Apple opened Duo submissions on October 5, 2026, and requires the screenshots from April 2027 for any app using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later.
The Asset Library arrived the same day: upload a file once and place it on a version or custom product page through Browse Assets. Through the API, Duo screenshots go through the library, because the older screenshot-set display types have no Duo value.
Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro and Apple Watch sizes
Each platform's size is required for apps on it. Mac takes 16:10 images from 1280 x 800 to 2880 x 1800, Apple TV 1920 x 1080 or 3840 x 2160, and Apple Vision Pro 3840 x 2160. Apple Watch takes one size per app across every language, from 312 x 390 (Series 3) to 422 x 514 (Ultra 4); Apple's spec page lists the size for each model.
Common problems and how to fix them
"The dimensions of one or more screenshots are wrong"
Why: The file's pixel size isn't accepted for that well: a 6.3-inch capture in the 6.9-inch well, an iPhone image in the iPad tab, or a design exported a pixel off.
Fix: Check the pixel size (sips -g pixelWidth -g pixelHeight shot.png) against the table above and export again at a listed size for that class.
Screenshot upload stuck on processing
Why: Apple validates each image after upload, and you can't act on an asset until processing completes. In MetaRun's API work, wrong-size images only fail after this step, so a stuck or failed item often has a size or format problem.
Fix: Reload after a while. If it's still stuck, delete it, check size, format and alpha channel, and upload again. App previews can take up to 24 hours.
Can't delete or replace screenshots in App Store Connect
Why: Screenshots belong to a version. Apple says images and videos aren't editable in Ready for Review and can't be uploaded or edited in Waiting for Review; a version in Ready for Distribution is live. Library assets can only be deleted in Prepare for Submission.
Fix: Take the version out of its draft submission, or remove it from review (it becomes Developer Rejected), then edit. For a live app, create a new version; its metadata carries over and you replace the screenshots there.
Screenshots showing in the wrong language
Why: A localization without its own uploads shows the primary language's screenshots. And shoppers see the localization matching their language setting, so a French localization also shows in storefronts that support French but not your primary language.
Fix: Switch to each language in App Store Connect and check the wells hold that language's images. Replace them and submit with the next version.
Do it from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Xcode with MetaRun
Screenshots are the part of a release people dread: frame every capture, write captions that fit, redo it all per language, export at Apple's sizes, then upload ten images per display size per language by hand.
MetaRun's studio is fully tool-driven, so your agent can build a project, apply a template, set captions, translate them, render previews you can look at, and then upload. Uploads go through the same preview gate as every other write.
Before you start
- Raw captures of your app: simulator screenshots, UI test output or exported images.
- An editable version to upload to.
- For iPhone Duo, app previews or creative assets: the App Asset Library tools.
How the agent runs it
- 01
Start from your captures
Local files get an https URL with npx metarun upload, or the studio's own upload tools. Your agent creates a project and assigns one capture per slide.
- 02
Design and caption
The agent applies a template and writes captions. Every slide can be rendered on the server and returned as an image, so you see the real result in the conversation.
- 03
Translate
Captions are translated per language, and the lint flags text that overflows its frame in a longer language.
- 04
Upload behind a preview
Each upload previews the target set, size and position. The confirm token is bound to the image bytes, so what you approved is exactly what reaches Apple.
An example session
Use the PNGs in fastlane/screenshots/en-US to build a 6-slide screenshot set with the Keynote template. Write captions from our feature list in README.md.
- studio_create_projectProject created with six slides, one capture each.
- Your agent asks before running studio_apply_template. You read the preview above and approve.
- studio_apply_templateKeynote template applied: background, device frame, caption type.
- studio_render_slideSlide 1 rendered at 1320 x 2868 and shown in the conversation.
- apple_preview_upload_screenshotPreview: slide 1 to the iPhone 6.9-inch set, English (U.S.), position 1.
- Your agent asks before running apple_apply_upload_screenshot. You read the preview above and approve.
- apple_apply_upload_screenshotUploaded. Apple is processing the image.
Illustrative: your apps, versions and numbers will differ. The tool names and their order are real.
The MetaRun tools involved
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| studio_create_projectMetaRun | A new screenshot project for the app. |
| studio_apply_templateMetaRun | One of eight complete designs: background, device placement, caption type. |
| studio_set_slide_textMetaRun | Captions per slide and per language. |
| studio_translate_slidesMetaRun | Translate every caption into the project's languages. |
| studio_render_slideMetaRun | Render a slide on the server so you can see it before anything uploads. |
| studio_lint_assetsread | Check captions against Apple's asset rules. |
| apple_preview_upload_screenshotpreview + apply | Upload one rendered image to a screenshot set. The token is bound to the image's MD5. |
| apple_preview_reorder_screenshotspreview + apply | Set the order shoppers see. |
| apple_preview_upload_library_assetpreview + apply | Upload to Apple's App Asset Library (API 4.5.1), needed for app previews and iPhone Duo. |
Each preview has an apply twin that only runs with the confirm token from a fresh preview, and refuses if App Store Connect changed in between.
What Apple enforces along the way
Ten screenshots per display size per language
Apple caps each set at ten. The first three are what most shoppers see in search results, which is why order is its own tool.
Uploads come from https URLs
MetaRun fetches the image from an https URL behind an SSRF guard, checks its size and type from the bytes, and binds the confirm token to the file's MD5.
iPhone Duo needs the App Asset Library
Apple's older screenshot sets have no iPhone Duo display type, and Apple requires Duo screenshots on submissions from April 2027. Duo, app preview videos and creative assets go through the library tools.
Server renders skip the 3D frame
Slides rendered on the server use the 2D device frame. 3D mockups render in the studio in your browser; the tool says so in its notes when it falls back.
Set up your agent
Connect once, then ask in plain words. Pick your agent:
Claude Code Anthropic
Run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user metarun https://metarun.dev/api/mcp, then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in to MetaRun in your browser.
01 · Add the server
Run it in any terminal. --scope user makes MetaRun available in every project; leave it out to limit it to the current one.
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user metarun https://metarun.dev/api/mcp02 · Sign in
In a Claude Code session, run /mcp, choose metarun and authenticate. MetaRun opens in your browser, where you pick read-only or read and change. From a plain shell, claude mcp login metarun does the same.
/mcp03 · Optional: add the skills too
The MetaRun plug-in bundles the same server with six mission skills (release handoff, worldwide pricing, localization, review inbox, ASO audit, store media).
claude plugin marketplace add metarun/metarun-skills
claude plugin install metarun-skills@metarunThen ask Claude Code
- Ask Claude Code: Use the PNGs in fastlane/screenshots/en-US to build a 6-slide screenshot set with the Keynote template. Write captions from our feature list in README.md.
- Ask Claude Code: Render slides 1 to 3 and show me before uploading anything.
- Ask Claude Code: Translate the captions into German and Japanese, check for overflow, then upload the English and German sets.
claude -p runs one request with no interactive session. The browser sign-in can't complete inside -p, so sign in once interactively first, or configure the server with a personal access token in CI. Tools missing from --allowedTools are refused in -p mode.
Read-only check, safe to schedule
claude -p "List the screenshot sets on the editable version of com.example.app, with the count per display size and language. Read only." \
--allowedTools "mcp__metarun__studio_lint_assets,mcp__metarun__apple_preview_upload_screenshot,mcp__metarun__apple_preview_reorder_screenshots,mcp__metarun__apple_preview_upload_library_asset"Only reads and previews are on that list, so nothing can reach App Store Connect unattended. Run applies in an interactive session where Claude Code can ask you.
Codex OpenAI
Run codex mcp add metarun --url https://metarun.dev/api/mcp; Codex detects MetaRun's sign-in and opens it in your browser.
01 · Add the server
Codex sees that MetaRun offers sign-in and starts it straight away, in your browser. Pick read-only or read and change.
codex mcp add metarun --url https://metarun.dev/api/mcp02 · Sign in again later
If the sign-in expires or you disconnected it in MetaRun's settings. --no-browser prints the link instead, for SSH sessions.
codex mcp login metarun03 · Or edit ~/.codex/config.toml
The Codex CLI, the IDE extension and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app read the same file, so one entry covers all three.
[mcp_servers.metarun]
url = "https://metarun.dev/api/mcp"Then ask Codex
- Ask Codex: Use the PNGs in fastlane/screenshots/en-US to build a 6-slide screenshot set with the Keynote template. Write captions from our feature list in README.md.
- Ask Codex: Render slides 1 to 3 and show me before uploading anything.
- Ask Codex: Translate the captions into German and Japanese, check for overflow, then upload the English and German sets.
codex exec runs one request without an interactive session and with its approval policy set to never. MetaRun's reads and previews still run, because they're marked read-only; anything that would ask is refused.
Read-only check, safe to schedule
codex exec "List the screenshot sets on the editable version of com.example.app, with the count per display size and language. Read only."Applies are refused in codex exec by design. Don't set MetaRun's approval mode to approve just to make them pass; keep App Store changes in an interactive session.
Cursor Anysphere
Add https://metarun.dev/api/mcp to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or use the install link) and sign in to MetaRun when Cursor opens your browser.
01 · Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json for one project)
{
"mcpServers": {
"metarun": {
"url": "https://metarun.dev/api/mcp"
}
}
}02 · Or use the install link
Opens Cursor with the server filled in.
https://cursor.com/link/mcp/install?name=metarun&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21ldGFydW4uZGV2L2FwaS9tY3AifQ%3D%3D03 · Sign in
When Cursor connects, MetaRun opens in your browser. Pick read-only or read and change, and you're back in the editor with the tools listed under MCP.
Then ask Cursor
- Ask Cursor: Build App Store screenshots from the images in @assets/store and caption them.
- Ask Cursor: Make slide 2's caption shorter and highlight 'offline'.
- Ask Cursor: Upload the rendered set to the iPhone 6.9-inch display for English.
The Cursor CLI runs one request without the editor with agent -p. Allow only the read tools the request needs in ~/.cursor/cli-config.json (Mcp(metarun:tool_name) rules), and keep MetaRun's apply tools out of that list.
Read-only check, safe to schedule
agent -p "List the screenshot sets on the editable version of com.example.app, with the count per display size and language. Read only." --output-format jsonDon't run it with --force for MetaRun: that approves every tool, applies included.

- Ask Claude: Translate the captions into Spanish and upload both languages.
Frequently asked questions
What are the App Store screenshot requirements?
1 to 10 screenshots per display size and language, as .png, .jpg or .jpeg with no alpha channel, at an exact accepted size. For iPhone, upload 6.9-inch (1320 x 2868) and 6.3-inch (1206 x 2622); for an iPad app, add 13-inch (2064 x 2752).
What is the 6.9 inch screenshot size?
1320 x 2868 portrait or 2868 x 1320 landscape. The slot also accepts 1290 x 2796 and 1260 x 2736.
What is the 13 inch iPad screenshot size?
2064 x 2752 portrait or 2752 x 2064 landscape. Apple also accepts 2048 x 2732 in that slot, so 12.9-inch iPad Pro screenshots still work. It's required whenever your app runs on iPad.
How many screenshots can you upload to the App Store?
Up to 10 per display size, per language, and at least one for each required size. Up to three app previews come on top.
Do I need screenshots for every iPhone size?
No. Provide the required sizes and App Store Connect scales them for the rest.
Can I use an App Store screenshot resizer?
Within a family, yes. The iPhone classes from 6.1 to 6.9 inches are all close to 19.5:9, so a 1320 x 2868 master resizes to 1206 x 2622 with a small crop. The 5.5-inch (16:9) and iPad (3:4) sizes need their own layouts, and the output must hit Apple's pixels exactly.
What are the app preview video specs?
15 to 30 seconds, up to 500 MB, H.264 (.mov, .m4v, .mp4) or ProRes 422 HQ (.mov), up to 30 fps, stereo audio. Modern iPhones take 886 x 1920 and most iPads 1200 x 1600.
Can your agent upload screenshots from my machine?
Yes, via an https URL. npx metarun upload <file> returns one for a local PNG or JPEG, and the studio tools take uploads directly. The upload itself runs on MetaRun's servers with your Apple key, which never touches your machine.
Do I have to use MetaRun's studio?
No. If you already have final images, your agent can upload and order them directly with the screenshot tools. The studio is for when you want framing, captions and translations done too.
What sizes does it support?
Every display size Apple lists for screenshot sets, plus the App Asset Library's catalog for newer placements such as iPhone Duo. apple_get_asset_catalog returns Apple's current specs.
Can I see the screenshots before they go up?
Yes. studio_render_slide returns each slide as an image and studio_store_preview shows them in App Store context. Nothing uploads until you approve the apply.
