App Store pricing by country: base price, overrides and PPP
App Store pricing by country starts from one base price: you pick a base country or region and a price, and Apple generates a comparable price in the other 174 storefronts, adjusted for exchange rates and certain taxes. You can override any storefront by hand, and Apple stops adjusting the storefronts you price yourself.
Every price is a point on a fixed ladder for that currency: up to 800 points by default, plus 100 higher ones the Account Holder can request. So regional pricing in App Store Connect means picking points, never typing arbitrary amounts.
Equalization keeps prices consistent across currencies. It doesn't make them affordable: a $4.99 app costs INR 499 in India, where purchasing power parity puts the local equivalent nearer INR 115. That gap is the case for App Store price localization: override lower-income storefronts with PPP or a similar index, then snap each result to a valid point.

| Price change | What you set | Does Apple adjust it later? |
|---|---|---|
| Global Price Change | A price in your base country or region; Apple fills in the other 174 storefronts | Yes, for tax and exchange-rate moves, except the base storefront |
| Custom Price Change | Your own prices in chosen storefronts, or in all 175 | No. Those storefronts show Manually Adjusted |
| Temporary Price Change | Prices in chosen storefronts between a start and an end date | No, not during the window |
In-app purchases have the same three options. Auto-renewable subscriptions are never repriced by Apple for tax or exchange-rate changes.

Equalized prices are what Apple returned for a $4.99 US base on 2026-10-12. PPP ratio: World Bank 2025 PPP conversion factor divided by the 2025 exchange rate. Big Mac ratio: the local Big Mac's dollar price divided by the US price (The Economist, July 2026). Adjusted prices are the equalized price times the ratio, snapped to a nearby price point that follows the local convention.
How to set prices by country in App Store Connect
You need the Account Holder, Admin or App Manager role. Any price above free also needs the Paid Apps Agreement accepted by the Account Holder.
- 01
Open Pricing and Availability
In Apps, select the app, then under Monetization in the sidebar click Pricing and Availability. Each in-app purchase has the same Price Schedule section on its own page.
- 02
Pick the base country or region
In Price Schedule, click Add Pricing and choose the storefront you know best. Apple never changes the base price on its own.
- 03
Choose the base price
The menu opens with 25 conventional price points. Scroll to the end and click See Additional Prices for the full ladder, then click Next.
- 04
Keep or override each storefront
Apple shows a comparable price for every other storefront. Leave a row as it is and Apple keeps it equalized; choose a different price and Apple won't adjust that storefront again.
- 05
Confirm
Click Next, review the upcoming prices and click Confirm.
- 06
Change prices later from the schedule
Next to Price Schedule, click the add button (+), then pick the kind of change and an effective date, anywhere from today to the end of the next calendar year.
How base-country pricing works
Since the 2023 pricing upgrade, every app and in-app purchase has a base storefront. Apple generates the other prices from it, following each market's most common price convention, and updates them periodically when taxes or exchange rates move. It notifies you before those updates and never touches the base price. Recent rounds covered Poland, Switzerland and Türkiye (announced October 2025) and South Korea (May 2026), and each time only storefronts on equalized prices moved.
You can change the base later, but the change takes effect immediately and deletes every scheduled price change, so note your schedule first. In-app purchases follow the app's new base unless you already gave them their own pricing or base.
Changing the price by country with a Custom Price Change
A Custom Price Change has two modes. "Manually manage prices in specific countries or regions" lets you pick storefronts (never the base) and set their prices. "Manually manage prices in all countries or regions" asks for a base price and turns off Apple's adjustments in all 175. To hand a storefront back to Apple, schedule a Global Price Change.
Manual means you own the upkeep: if a currency falls 20% against your base, nobody reprices that storefront for you. Review manual storefronts at least yearly and after any adjustment email from Apple.
Scheduled and temporary price changes
A Temporary Price Change is the clean way to run a sale in a few markets: pick storefronts, a start and an end date (at most a year apart), and the previous price returns on the end date. Apple doesn't adjust those storefronts during the window. If the window includes your base, Apple pauses automatic adjustments in all 175 storefronts until it ends.
Changes start at a different local time in each storefront; Apple's start-times reference lists them. A change scheduled for a time that has already passed somewhere applies there immediately but can take up to 24 hours to show for everyone.
What a price change means for existing subscribers
Auto-renewable subscriptions are priced per storefront from the same ladders, with two differences. Apple never reprices them for tax or currency changes; when VAT changes, your proceeds change instead. And you can schedule only one future price change per storefront and billing plan; a second one overwrites the first.
A decrease reaches existing subscribers at their next renewal and can't be reversed once live. For an increase you choose: keep current subscribers on their price, or move them, in which case Apple notifies them or asks for consent, depending on the storefront and the size of the increase. The subscription guide walks through both.
PPP vs Big Mac vs flat equalization
Flat equalization is Apple's default and needs no upkeep. It suits apps whose buyers are mostly in high-income markets, where the PPP ratio is close to 1 anyway (about 0.80 for Germany and 0.89 for the UK on 2025 World Bank figures).
Purchasing power parity scales the price by how far money goes locally. The World Bank publishes a PPP conversion factor (local currency per international dollar); divide it by the market exchange rate and you get a ratio: about 0.23 for India, 0.46 for Brazil and 0.41 for Türkiye on 2025 figures. Multiply Apple's equalized price by the ratio and snap the result to a point, and India goes from INR 499 to INR 115.
The Big Mac index compares the dollar price of one burger. It's narrower and can disagree sharply: in July 2026 a Big Mac in Türkiye cost more in dollars than in the US, so the index suggests no discount there while PPP suggests about 60% off. Treat any index as a starting point and judge it by conversion and proceeds per storefront.
High-inflation economies need a closer eye. Türkiye's PPP ratio moved from about 0.35 in 2024 to 0.41 in 2025 on World Bank data, so recompute at least yearly, and set a floor so no storefront lands below a price worth selling for.
Avoiding ugly prices
Raw PPP math gives numbers like INR 114.97 or BRL 13.67. Apple only accepts points from each currency's ladder, so you snap anyway; the question is which way. Follow the convention Apple's own equalization uses in that market. For a $4.99 base it returned INR 499, BRL 29.90, TRY 249.99, JPY 800, EUR 5.99 in Germany and GBP 4.99 in the UK: whole rupees, .90 in Brazil, .99 in Türkiye and Europe, round yen.
Charm endings (.99, .90, a trailing 9) read as normal almost everywhere, and since 2023 Apple also offers rounded endings like X.00 or X.90, which suit annual plans and bundles. When two points are equally close, take the one a local shopper expects. Doing this by hand for 174 storefronts is slow; MetaRun's pricing engine snaps every storefront at once and shows each move from the raw number to the price point before anything is staged.
Common problems and how to fix them
Price change not showing in a storefront
Why: Changes start at a different local time per storefront, and one scheduled for a time that already passed there can take up to 24 hours to display for all users. The customer may also be on another storefront: the Apple Account's country or region decides which one, not where the person is.
Fix: Check that storefront's start time in Apple's start-times reference and confirm its row in Price Schedule shows the new price. Wait a day before escalating, and test with an Apple Account set to that country or region.
Can't pick an exact price, like $12.25
Why: Every currency has a fixed ladder of price points. Above $10 the US ladder steps from $12.00 to $12.49, $12.90, $12.95 and $12.99, so $12.25 doesn't exist. The menu also shows only 25 points until you expand it.
Fix: Click See Additional Prices and pick the nearest point that fits the local convention. For prices above the default range, the Account Holder can request the 100 higher price points.
Apple changed my prices (tax or foreign exchange adjustment email)
Why: Storefronts on equalized prices are updated when taxes or exchange rates change. Apple announces it in advance and marks the rows Foreign Exchange or Tax Rate Adjustment in Price Schedule. Your base storefront, manually managed storefronts and auto-renewable subscriptions are left alone.
Fix: Nothing to fix if you want equalized prices. To hold a storefront at your own price from now on, make it manual with a Custom Price Change; some upcoming Apple adjustments can't be deleted from the schedule.
Users in the same country see different prices
Why: The price follows the storefront of each person's Apple Account, so someone with an account from another country sees that storefront's price and currency. Right after a change, some devices can show the old price for up to 24 hours.
Fix: Ask which country or region their Apple Account uses and compare it with that storefront's row in Price Schedule.
Do it from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Xcode with MetaRun
Apple converts your base price into every currency at roughly the exchange rate. $9.99 in the US becomes the equivalent of $9.99 in India, Brazil and Egypt, where it's a very different amount of money. Fixing that by hand means 175 dropdowns, each with its own list of allowed prices.
MetaRun computes the prices with purchasing power parity from World Bank data, the Big Mac index, the Spotify index or a straight conversion, rounds them to charm prices, and resolves each to an actual Apple price point. Your agent gets the full table and stages it.
Before you start
- A base price and the storefront it's anchored to (usually the US).
- A strategy: PPP, Big Mac, Spotify, or straight conversion.
- For subscriptions: whether current subscribers keep their price.
How the agent runs it
- 01
Pick a base and a strategy
Your agent asks for the anchor price and storefront, and the strategy: PPP, Big Mac, Spotify, or direct conversion.
- 02
Compute the table
pricing_compute_prices returns a row per storefront: the computed price, the Apple price point it snapped to, and the change from today.
- 03
Stage the schedule
The computed input feeds the preview tool directly. A full reprice of every storefront previews in seconds because exact prices resolve from Apple's tier catalog.
- 04
Apply on approval
One apply replaces the schedule. The change is recorded, and the old schedule can be restored from history.
An example session
Reprice com.example.app worldwide with PPP, anchored at $4.99 in the US, charm rounding. Preview the 20 biggest changes first.
- apple_get_app_pricingBase price $4.99 in the US; Apple's equalized prices everywhere else.
- pricing_compute_pricesA PPP price for each storefront, snapped to Apple's price points, with the change from today.
- apple_preview_set_territory_pricesPreview: the new schedule, every storefront's old and new price side by side.
- Your agent asks before running apple_apply_set_territory_prices. You read the preview above and approve.
- apple_apply_set_territory_pricesSchedule replaced. The old one is in history for a revert.
Illustrative: your apps, versions and numbers will differ. The tool names and their order are real.
The MetaRun tools involved
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| pricing_get_indexesread | PPP, Big Mac, Spotify and VAT reference values per country. |
| pricing_compute_pricesread | Runs the strategy and returns a staged input ready for the matching preview tool. |
| pricing_get_exchange_ratesread | Live USD exchange rates used in the math. |
| apple_get_app_pricingread | The app's current price schedule. |
| apple_find_price_pointsread | Apple's allowed prices for a storefront near a target. |
| apple_preview_set_territory_pricespreview + apply | Stage a full per-territory schedule for the app. |
| apple_preview_set_iap_pricepreview + apply | The same for an in-app purchase. |
| apple_preview_set_subscription_pricepreview + apply | The same for a subscription, with an option to keep current subscribers on their price. |
Each preview has an apply twin that only runs with the confirm token from a fresh preview, and refuses if App Store Connect changed in between.
What Apple enforces along the way
Every storefront has its own price ladder
Apple only accepts specific price points per territory. MetaRun snaps each computed price to a real point and shows where it moved.
One future price per territory
Apple allows a single scheduled price change per territory on a subscription. A bulk reprice skips territories that already have one and names the pending price and date.
Approved subscriptions start tomorrow
Once a subscription is approved, Apple won't create a new price row starting today. MetaRun schedules the earliest allowed date (tomorrow, UTC) and says so in the preview.
PPP needs a guard for inflation
In hyperinflation economies the PPP factor can sit above the market rate and push prices up. The engine caps the multiplier for those countries so the result stays affordable.

Claude Code Anthropic
Run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user metarun https://metarun.dev/api/mcp, then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in to MetaRun in your browser.
01 · Add the server
Run it in any terminal. --scope user makes MetaRun available in every project; leave it out to limit it to the current one.
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user metarun https://metarun.dev/api/mcp02 · Sign in
In a Claude Code session, run /mcp, choose metarun and authenticate. MetaRun opens in your browser, where you pick read-only or read and change. From a plain shell, claude mcp login metarun does the same.
/mcp03 · Optional: add the skills too
The MetaRun plug-in bundles the same server with six mission skills (release handoff, worldwide pricing, localization, review inbox, ASO audit, store media).
claude plugin marketplace add metarun/metarun-skills
claude plugin install metarun-skills@metarunThen ask Claude Code
- Ask Claude Code: Reprice com.example.app worldwide with PPP, anchored at $4.99 in the US, charm rounding. Preview the 20 biggest changes first.
- Ask Claude Code: Do the same for the yearly subscription, but keep current subscribers on their price.
- Ask Claude Code: Export the computed table to pricing/2026-10.csv so I can diff it later.
claude -p runs one request with no interactive session. The browser sign-in can't complete inside -p, so sign in once interactively first, or configure the server with a personal access token in CI. Tools missing from --allowedTools are refused in -p mode.
Read-only check, safe to schedule
claude -p "Compute PPP prices for com.example.app anchored at \$4.99 in the US and list the 10 storefronts with the largest change. Compute and read only; do not stage or apply." \
--allowedTools "mcp__metarun__pricing_get_indexes,mcp__metarun__pricing_compute_prices,mcp__metarun__pricing_get_exchange_rates,mcp__metarun__apple_get_app_pricing,mcp__metarun__apple_find_price_points,mcp__metarun__apple_preview_set_territory_prices,mcp__metarun__apple_preview_set_iap_price,mcp__metarun__apple_preview_set_subscription_price"Only reads and previews are on that list, so nothing can reach App Store Connect unattended. Run applies in an interactive session where Claude Code can ask you.
Codex OpenAI
Run codex mcp add metarun --url https://metarun.dev/api/mcp; Codex detects MetaRun's sign-in and opens it in your browser.
01 · Add the server
Codex sees that MetaRun offers sign-in and starts it straight away, in your browser. Pick read-only or read and change.
codex mcp add metarun --url https://metarun.dev/api/mcp02 · Sign in again later
If the sign-in expires or you disconnected it in MetaRun's settings. --no-browser prints the link instead, for SSH sessions.
codex mcp login metarun03 · Or edit ~/.codex/config.toml
The Codex CLI, the IDE extension and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app read the same file, so one entry covers all three.
[mcp_servers.metarun]

- Ask Codex: Reprice com.example.app worldwide with PPP, anchored at $4.99 in the US, charm rounding. Preview the 20 biggest changes first.
- Ask Codex: Do the same for the yearly subscription, but keep current subscribers on their price.
- Ask Codex: Export the computed table to pricing/2026-10.csv so I can diff it later.
codex exec runs one request without an interactive session and with its approval policy set to never. MetaRun's reads and previews still run, because they're marked read-only; anything that would ask is refused.

Frequently asked questions
Should I lower my app price in India?
Often, if India is a market you want. Apple's equalized price for a $4.99 base is INR 499, while PPP puts the local equivalent nearer INR 115. Test it with a Temporary Price Change in India only and compare downloads and proceeds before making it permanent. Be more careful with a subscription: a decrease applies to existing subscribers and can't be reversed, and a later increase in India requires consent from subscribers paying with UPI AutoPay.
What is regional pricing on the App Store?
Setting different prices per storefront instead of letting one base price convert everywhere. In App Store Connect that's a Custom Price Change for the storefronts you choose, or overrides in the equalized list when you first set a price.
How do I change the price by country in App Store Connect?
Open Pricing and Availability, click the add button next to Price Schedule and choose Custom Price Change. Pick the storefronts, set their prices and an effective date, then confirm. Apple stops adjusting those storefronts from that date.
How many App Store Connect price points are there?
Up to 800 per currency by default, starting at $0.29 in the US, plus 100 higher points up to $10,000 that the Account Holder can request. Apple described the steps as every $0.10 up to $10 and every $0.50 between $10 and $50.
Is purchasing power parity app pricing worth it?
It depends where your demand is. If you get installs from India, Brazil or Indonesia but almost no purchases, a PPP price is the obvious test. If nearly all revenue comes from the US and Western Europe, it changes little. The free pricing calculator on metarun.dev shows PPP, Big Mac and Spotify-index prices for any base price.
Does Apple change subscription prices when exchange rates move?
No. Apple's tax and currency adjustments exclude auto-renewable subscriptions. To pass a tax or currency change on to subscribers, change the subscription price yourself.
Can I change my base country later?
Yes, under Base Country or Region, Edit. The change applies immediately and permanently deletes scheduled price changes (App Store Connect asks you to acknowledge that), and in-app purchases follow the new base unless you set theirs separately.
Which pricing strategies can your agent use?
Purchasing power parity from World Bank data, the Big Mac index, the Spotify Premium index, direct conversion, or custom multipliers, with charm or whole-number rounding and optional VAT handling.
Will existing subscribers get a price increase?
Only if you choose that. apple_preview_set_subscription_price takes preserveCurrentPrice, which keeps current subscribers on their price while new ones pay the new one.
Can I try the math without connecting anything?
Yes. The free App Store pricing calculator on metarun.dev runs the same engine on any price, no account needed.
How long does a 175-storefront reprice take?
The preview resolves in seconds for exact prices, because MetaRun builds the price point ids from Apple's tier catalog instead of searching each territory.
